POSITION INFORMATION

Role Summary

The Senior Software Development Engineer designs complex technology solutions, develops code, and tests and maintains new and existing systems. As part of IT Services, this role partners closely with development teams to define scope and requirements, plus identifies opportunities to improve existing software solutions for the Maintenance & Engineering division.

Scope & Complexity

This position supports complex software development activities for Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air.

Key Duties

  • Partners with the business system owners and Enterprise Architecture to evaluate, design, develop, integrate and implement technology solutions

  • Provides technical leadership for the application life cycle in the areas of application design, development, software package integration, unit testing practices, application support, defect troubleshooting, and resolution

  • Designs and develops complex systems and their related interfaces incorporating common services as appropriate

  • Serves as a mentor and idea leader in developing others by leading code reviews, presenting technology debriefs, and sharing best practices

  • Stays actively engaged in the technology industry and understand how the evolving technologies can benefit our organization

  • Continually seeks to improve applications including system performance, functionality, code efficiency, and code defects

  • Develops and maintains appropriate system documentation throughout the system life cycle including design, development, test, support, change release, and implementation documentation

  • Provides application support including developing and implementing production application monitors, timely problem identification and resolution

  • Owns the technical aspects of a major system, ensuring the long term vision is achieved

  • Provides on-call support after hours when critical problems/issues arise.

Job-Specific Skills, Experience and Education

Required

  • A minimum of 5 years of professional software engineering experience

  • Experience in .NET/C# development

  • Proficient advance relational database skills (Oracle, SQL server)

  • Experience in Agile (Scrum) development methodologies

  • Full stack experience

  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross functional teams to understand objectives, gather automation requirements, write technical specifications and perform in a lead role

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Minimum age of 18

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S

Preferred

  • Experience mobile application development

  • 2 years of airline/travel industry experience

  • Experience with Angular, JavaScript and Advanced Web UI technologies

  • Experience with Azure

  • Experience with Docker, Containers and Kubernetes

  • Familiarity with Tibco

  • Experience with layered system architecture and design patterns (MVC, MVP)

  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills

  • Experience estimating effort and establishing timelines for projects

  • Experience writing and optimizing complex queries

  • Experience supporting and integrating with vendor based software packages and/or solutions

  • Experience in developing high-performance and scalable software solutions

  • Experience in developing test strategies and test driven development

  • Ability to debug, server-side, multi-threaded, and highly scalable applications

  • A Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science degree, with a focus computer science
